{"id":2825,"date":"2026-03-29T19:59:06","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T02:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fnerk.com\/?p=2825"},"modified":"2026-03-30T20:22:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T03:22:49","slug":"international-meals-micronesia-the-federated-states-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fnerk.com\/?p=2825","title":{"rendered":"International Meals &#8211; Micronesia, The Federated States of"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know the title&#8217;s a bit awkward, but even the UN lists this country under &#8220;M&#8221;.\u00a0 What are we supposed to do?<\/p>\n<p>Micronesia is another geographically enormous country like the Maldives and Marshall Islands that is almost entirely water.\u00a0 It has four states, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, and we&#8217;re going to be making a dish from the last one.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been at this project for something like eight or nine years now, and while there were a few (much better researched) online blogs doing something similar when we started, as time has gone on, there have been more and more.\u00a0 Sadly, they all seem to quote\u00a0<em>each other<\/em> more than they do any actual source.<\/p>\n<p>For example, while Chicken Kelaguen sounds tasty, and gets quoted all over the place as a national dish of Micronesia, I can&#8217;t find any actual evidence that this is, in fact, the case.<\/p>\n<p>So instead, we&#8217;re going with a soup that I found described on several blogs from Peace Corps volunteers who actually spent time in FSM, which is made as a sharing dish for Sundays after church. Seriously &#8211; the missionaries were apparently SUPER successful in this part of the world, because there&#8217;s a LOT of overtly religious content mixed in with the recipes. (Our recipe is literally from &#8220;Grateful Ministries Micronesia.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>After looking at the various ones I could find, we decided to go with a video that appeared to be a decent average of the available options, and had the advantage of actually listing QUANTITIES for the various ingredients.\u00a0 Link at the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>The basic Kosrae soup has seafood, rice and coconut milk.\u00a0 If it weren&#8217;t for the coconut milk, you could call it a thin congee.\u00a0 \u00a0Here&#8217;s the ingredients we opted for:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fnerk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260329_181420.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2826\" src=\"https:\/\/fnerk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260329_181420.jpg\" alt=\"Kosrae Soup ingredients\n\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fnerk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260329_181420.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fnerk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260329_181420-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fnerk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260329_181420-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fnerk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260329_181420-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The process is dead simple too.
